🔦Student Spotlight🔦
🔦This week we are spotlighting 3rd graders in Ms. Kahn's class:
Ms. Kahn’s third graders are off to a fantastic start! This week in math, they kicked off Unit 2: Place Value. On Monday, they had a fun visit from Mr. Gator, who helped them explore how to compare numbers. On Tuesday, students participated in an engaging "All About Me" Math Scoot activity, discovering how numbers are all around them. Later in the week, they practiced two-digit addition using different strategies. In science, Ms. Kahn's class discovered how athletes use data to reach their goals, and then set some personal goals of their own! We can already tell this will be a year full of growth, excitement, and meaningful learning in Ms. Kahn's class!

Mrs. Walton wears so many hats in our building it is hard to narrow it down to specifics; however, she is an absolute all star of meeting the needs of our kindergartners as they begin their school journey. From being a constant presence at kindergarten orientations and summer testing to meet parents and reassure families to being the first welcoming face they see when they arrive to school, she goes above and beyond to educate students and parents about what to expect as they embark on their school journey. She is kind, compassionate, extremely committed and hardworking......really, she's just magical. We could not start our years as seamlessly without Mrs. Walton and I know thousands of kids across Indian Land would agree!
🌟Tip of the Week from Mrs. Walton: Set healthy boundaries with screen time.
Technology is an integral part of our daily lives but too much can negatively affect sleep, focus, and social skills. Setting clear boundaries on expectations for technology use, and consequences for misuse, builds trust and encourages responsibility. Regular check-ins about the apps and websites your child is accessing can foster healthy on-line habits and ensure they are safe in digital spaces. There are several parent control apps you can download (such as Bark) which will alert you to unsafe activity on designated accounts.
Congratulations, Mrs. Walton! We are so glad you are part of the Tomahawk family!

Ms. Dillard's class kicked off the school year with an amazing first week! The students had a blast learning to write their names, making new friends on the playground, and enjoying lots of fun during indoor recess. With all the laughter and learning already happening, it’s clear this is going to be a fantastic year!

We are excited to invite YOU to our new Picnic on the Patio events! Each class will have (4) scheduled patio picnics in the fall and spring months (2 in the fall/2 in the spring). Whitney is so deserving of Tomahawk of the Week! She juggles it all — phone calls, work orders, Talking Points issues, bus changes, and a constant stream of teacher questions — all with grace, a smile, and a can-do attitude. She’s incredibly organized, always ready to lend a hand, and keeps the front desk running smoothly and efficiently. We’re lucky to have her and so proud she’s part of our front office team!
Each week, our Tomahawk of the Week will be sharing their top tip to help you and your student make the most of the school year! These helpful insights are designed to support learning, build strong routines, and strengthen the home-school connection.
Tip of the Week: Make sure you have your ID or Car Tag ready when you come in to check out your child....whether it's during the school day, from FIT Kids, car rider line, or after a special event. If a friend is picking up your child, make sure they have the tag or that they are listed on the pick up list. This helps us dismiss your child quickly AND safely!
Congratulations, Whitney! We are so glad you are part of Tomahawk Nation!

Chosen by our school administrators, these students have shown outstanding perseverance, leadership, and a positive attitude both in and out of the classroom. Through hard work and determination, they've overcome challenges and consistently lead by example.
Keep shining, Ellie, Gael, and Johnsen — your Tomahawk family is cheering you on! 💙💛

🌟 It’s Meet the Tomahawks Tuesday! 🌟
This week, we’re giving a big shoutout to our incredible office and Assistant Administration team — the friendly faces who keep things running smoothly at HES!
From welcoming families and helping students throughout the day to juggling calls, schedules, and everything in between, this team does it all with kindness, patience, and a smile.
They’re the go-to problem solvers, the calm during chaos, and the first ones to step in when someone needs a helping hand. Our school simply wouldn’t be the same without them!
Thank you for all that you do to support our students, staff, and families — we appreciate you more than words can say! 💙📞✏️

Whether he’s monitoring the halls, giving high fives, playing with students at recess (who has played him in rock, paper, scissors??), or making deliveries for the office staff, Officer Taylor is always building strong connections with our students and staff. He’s also doing an outstanding job keeping our car line running smoothly and efficiently! Thank you, Officer Taylor for all you do to make a positive impact on our school!
Congratulations, Officer Taylor!
